Yes, it is true! I am thrilled to report that two weeks ago Cari and I purchased one-way tickets to London for the first week of September. Excited, ecstatic, elated are all understatements. I don't think there is a word in any language dictionary in the world to describe just how excited we are! Our planning process has officially begun (thanks to the constant stream of tips and advice from dozens of friends and family members) and we both shamefully admit every few days that instead of studying for the last finals of our college careers, we have secretly been Googling towns and tours and people and places we want to visit. Right now our list is practically endless but we realize we need can only see so much in two months time. (Total side note: The one thing we have officially planned is that we will indeed be in Munich, Germany for Oktoberfest! Eek!) I think the hardest part for us be will accepting the fact that we cannot physically go everywhere and see everything. BUT . . we plan to see tons and I know we will be on the go 24/7.
Brussels, Belgium was not originally on our list when we met last week for a small planning session, but thanks to the following picture (please keep in mind that Cari and I are perhaps the two most food-obsessed people on the planet) Brussels in now on our itinerary:
Don't get me started on the Belgium waffle. I have spent approximately 45 minutes straight researching Belgium waffles. I have a feeling Cari and I will have serious trouble prying ourselves away from such stands.
While looking around on the internet today (I was serious when I said it's kind of a distraction planning a trip when I'm supposed to be studying for my grammar final), I came across a site I somewhat fell in love with. A few days ago my mother informed me I should only pack 5 outfits since we are backpacking. After picking my jaw up off the floor and calming down my heart rate, I figured there HAD to be a way to pack more than just 5 outfits. I don't think my mother understands that it is not humanly possible for me to pack such an incredibly and ridiculously small amount of clothes. Enter my new favorite website: Glampacking: The Fashionable Girl's Guide to Backpacking. A few of my favorite tips?
Rule #1: Remember Where You're Going - If you're sticking to a route of museums, dinners, and sights you aren't going to need (and certainly won't want) to look like you've just hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Rule #3: Switch out Synonyms - You can easily translate fleece, poncho, bandanna into cute sweater, umbrella, and wearable haircut.
Rule #4: Save Room for Insensible Shoes - Yes, you absolutely need comfortable walking shoes but even chic urban kicks are not going to cut it for a real night out. Allow yourself one pair of heels.
Genius! This might just be the best thing Google has offered me all month. Thank you Google, and hello to Glampacking! Watch out world, Tori is gonna show you how to backpack the right way. And sorry Mom, 5 outfits just aren't gonna cut it for this girl :)
